Last week, I decided to re-evaluate what was important in my online life, which spilled over into an evaluation of what was important in my professional life. The result was that I have closed my Facebook account.
Why? I’m tired of being datamined and followed around by computer algorithms whose programmers only want to direct the right advertising to me. Also, I got tired of constantly looking over my shoulder, so to speak, at my Facebook privacy settings to make sure nothing snuck in when I wasn’t looking.
Does this put me at the vanguard of the digerati, make me a Luddite, or relegate me to the world of digital hermits and curmudgeons? Time will tell.
